Do you have questions about bird friendly glass?

Did you know that Canada has some of the world’s most comprehensive bird-friendly building standards? Fortunately, resources like the AviProtek® e-books of bird-friendly glass can help you navigate the changing landscape of bird-safe glazing regulations. Learn more here, or read on for more details.

In response to an estimated 25 million fatal bird-glass collisions per year in Canada and up to a billion in North America, the country’s local and municipal governments are introducing and strengthening bird-friendly building requirements. Toronto’s Green Standard version 4 took effect last May, while the CSA A460:19 Bird-friendly building design standard is emerging as an influential model for bird-friendly legislation nationally. Adoption of this standard is supported by Nature Canada’s Bird-Friendly City certification program, and by bird advocacy groups across the country.

At the same time, provincial and municipal solar performance requirements are becoming increasingly strict as Canada moves toward its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. The latest version of the National Energy Code of Canada (NECB) was released in March of this year and contains the lowest U-value limits to date.

Considerations like these will define which goals architects will need to meet when designing their upcoming projects. Are you ready for the challenge?

Walker Glass has worked closely with leading scientists over the past several years to develop glazing solutions that will meet these demands. Our AviProtek® bird-friendly glass options with first-surface visual markers have proven their effectiveness and sustainability. When combined with a choice of low-emissivity coatings from Vitro Architectural Glass on surface two, these glass products can provide enhanced energy efficiency for projects in a wide range of climate zones.

You’ll find all the answers you need for bird-safe and energy-efficient building in Canada in our dedicated e-books: the AviProtek® Toronto e-book of bird-friendly glass and the AviProtek® Canada e-book of bird-friendly glass. These texts are essential resources for anyone building in Canada today.
