CBDX Cities for All Competition Winners Announcement February 10, 2021

Dear CBDX Community,

You are invited to join us on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 1:00pm MDT for the CBDX: Cities for All Winners’ Announcement. Our prestigious panel of jurors: Leire Asensio Villoria, Kimberly Dowdell, Gina Ford, David Fortin, Alvin Huang, Hanif Kara, Shelley McNamara and Alberto de Salvatierra (Jury Chair) will share their thoughts on the entries and award $6000 CAD in prizes to the entrants that best addressed the competition brief.

This first competition in the CBDX series of three competitions, asked entrants to consider how matters of equity, activism, environment and wellness could shape the cities of our future. What might a city for all look like? How does it operate or come into being in the context of a global pandemic and the encroaching reality of environmental degradation?

When we launched the ideas competition in October – the first international competition sponsored by the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape – we had no idea what kind of response it might generate. So we are very proud to disclose this competition elicited 145 submissions from 108 cities representing 26 different countries. We were simply blown away by the unique perspectives embedded in each submission on how to make our cities more equitable.

Winning entries will be exhibited virtually at cbdxcitiesforall.com and physically at the City Building Design Lab and the Calgary City Hall. Both exhibitions will launch after the Winners’ Announcement.
